Sri Tapas Kumar Basu, a devoted cameraphile, has been passionately collecting, studying, and preserving the history of camera evolution for over six decades. His lifelong dedication to photography has led to the creation of an extraordinary collection of around two hundred cameras, along with films, reels, and a variety of photographic gadgets that trace the fascinating technological journey of image-making through the ages.
Beyond being a collector, Sri Basu is also an accomplished photographer who firmly believes that a photograph is not complete until it is printed. To him, printing is the final and most authentic expression of a photographer’s vision— a tangible realization of creativity. This philosophy reflects his deep respect for the art, craft, and permanence of photography. His enduring enthusiasm and commitment, even after sixty years, continue to inspire photography enthusiasts and students alike.
In addition to cameras, Sri Basu also collects clocks, paper currencies, and several other intriguing artifacts, each representing his love for history, precision, and craftsmanship. His diverse interests reveal a curious mind dedicated to preserving the beauty of human innovation across time.
